A practical 12-week EA exam study plan
Adapt this illustrative schedule to your existing tax experience, weekly study time, and the dates of the parts you intend to sit.
Part 1: Individuals
Review filing status, income, deductions, credits and specialized individual returns. Practice with unfamiliar facts.
Part 2: Businesses
Compare LLCs, partnerships, S and C corporations, basis, accounting, expense deductions, payroll and special returns.
Part 3: Representation
Focus on Circular 230, Forms 2848 and 8821, notices, examinations, collections, appeals and e-file obligations.
Review and exam simulation
Use newly written practice questions and timed 100-question mock examinations. Revisit weak domains and recurring errors.
Five habits for stronger results
- Study against the latest official IRS/PSI content outline, not just a collection of questions.
- Answer before opening the explanation, recording your confidence level.
- Understand why the wrong answers are wrong and which fact changes the conclusion.
- Review missed concepts on different examples after a delay.
- Rehearse the 3.5-hour time limit and 100-question format for each exam part.
Check your examination window
The IRS states that PSI began administering the SEE in 2026. The domestic 2026–2027 testing window is July 1, 2026 through February 28, 2027, with questions generally reflecting tax law through December 31, 2025. Consult the official IRS FAQ for updated administration and scheduling rules.
Neither completing 12 weeks nor finishing a course guarantees passing. AcademyTaxPro's full mock-exam system is being developed; we are not yet selling it.
